New Airbyte updates make data transfers faster and more reliable

Significant improvements to the Snowflake destination connector is one of Airbyte’s most popular and key connectors. The data integration platform and ELT tool has announced a range of robust updates that deliver faster data transfer, predictable pricing, and more accurate, secure data for AI and analytics.

The Airbyte data movement platform’s new performance enhancements include high-volume Snowflake syncs that are up to 95% cheaper, depending on use case specifics. This has been achieved by moving to direct loading and optimising compute and storage use. Airbyte’s move to direct loading is aimed at reducing unnecessary delays and complexity. Tasks that previously took hours to complete will now take just a few minutes, making data transfer more cost-effective.

Synchronisations speeds are up to ten times faster than previous processes with a newly designed underlying loading mechanism that uses Snowflake’s native bulk loading capabilities, thus providing major performance and cost improvements.

Teams that now use Snowflake at scale will benefit from faster data delivery for AI workloads or downstream analytics, all at much lower infrastructure costs, the company claims.

Similarly, the Microsoft SQL Server connector, the third-largest database source by volume in Airbyte’s platform, is now up to 84% faster. Meanwhile, MySQL-to-S3 syncs have also increased, becoming five times faster, from 23 MB/s to 110 MB/s. Users can now save resources by transferring one terabyte of data from PostSQL to S3 in only two and a half hours, compared to two days before, company figures state.

Across the entire platform, re-architected connectors for Azure, Amazon S3, BigQuery, and ClickHouse can deliver speeds up to ten times faster.

The S3 Data Lake destination connector can now support Apache Polaris catalogue integration, supporting the Iceberg format, and eliminating manual catalogue management. Therefore, data can be written to S3 while automatically registering tables in Polaris. This makes S3 data query-able and discoverable in all data lakehouse tools, including Fink, Spark, and Trino.

Michel Tricot, CEO and co-founder of Airbyte, commented on these latest updates, saying, “Data is the fuel that feeds AI and analytics to improve decision-making, and no data is more important than the organisation’s first-party data that it owns related to its customers and markets. We’re helping make data more accessible in organisations with unprecedented ease and speed.”

Over time, these latest optimisation principles, like direct loading, compute tuning, and smart batching, are set to be applied to further Airbyte destination connectors, not just Snowflake.

Airbyte Plus plan pricing

The new Airbyte Plus plan offers fixed annual pricing for small and medium-sized businesses, which also comes with expert support. Alongside Airbyte’s service legal agreements, this gives businesses confidence that their important data operation will be supported.

Airbyte Plus is designed for practitioners and small teams who need fully managed cloud software, SSO, and core functionality. The plan also provides customers with predictive annual billing based on capacity.

Airbyte Pro, meanwhile, is designed for larger organisations who require governance, scalability, and fully managed cloud hosting, also coming with capacity-based pricing.

Cost depends on how many pipelines run in parallel, ensuring pricing is scalable and predictable. Airbyte’s standard plan will continue to use traditional volume-based pricing, ideal for smaller teams and individuals with less predictable workloads.

AI-powered connector building

Another update from Airbyte can be seen with its Connector Builder, which now includes AI-assisted features. These have been engineered to make it easier for users to produce custom data connectors that ensure the correct data is available for AI workflows and analytics.

Users of Airbyte Cloud and Airbyte Flex will benefit from automatic updates that are sent to any connector created with the new Connector Builder. The updates will appear when Airbyte improves the connector, enhances performance, and supplies new features.

Simplifying data movement

Airbyte’s new upgrades and features have been implemented to simplify the process of transferring data between a wide selection of sources and destinations. Businesses can, therefore, be confident that their data is secure, accurate, up-to-date, and AI-ready.

With new simplified on-premises deployment, secure data for AI and analytics, and predictable pricing, customers are in a better position to easily manage their data pipelines, while simultaneously ensuring compliance, reliability, and cost control.
